Saudi Arabia – ¼ Riyal – Abd al-Azīz – 1935
Also called Ibn Saud, Abd al-Azīz was the founder and first king of Saudi Arabia. Under his reign, oil was discovered in the kingdom. Saudi coins produced under his reign continued the tradition of Nejd and Hejaz, which prohibited humans and animal for being depicted. As such, both sides of the coin only contain Arabic text, palm trees, and swords, which are national symbols of Saudi Arabia.
