North Korea – 50 Chon – 1978 (General Issue)

North Korea issues three different types of coins and paper money. The first, regular issues such as this one, are intended to be used by North Koreans themselves. Coins with one star added are for visitors from communist countries, and coins with two stars are for visitors from capitalist countries. This allows North Korea to set different exchange rates for different visitors, in order to bring as much money in “hard currency” (such as dollars) into the country as possible.
