France – 5 Francs – Napoleon I – L’an 12 (1813)

Napoleon began his rise to power by proclaiming himself “first consul”, theoretically one of the three leaders (albeit the most powerful one) of France. He also paid homage to the ideals of the French Revolution by using the revolutionary calender – which is why this coin says it was minted in the year 12.
